Logo Design, Branding

About The Project

Fruitdale Farm is a small, family-owned farm located in Wheat Ridge, CO. Founded in 2020 by the Rumbaugh family, the farm specializes in eggs, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. The owners approached me about creating their logo in late 2020. The logo would be used on clothing, and most importantly on their packaging for their farm products.

Logo Design

The main criteria for this logo was to depict some of the staple products produced by Fruitdale. The items depicted evolved during the logo design process. Originally, the logo depicted a chicken standing on a pear, holding a flower. The flower was replaced by a sprig of hops, and a sunflower was added near the pear. An alternate version of the logo, with sunflower petals arranged around the outside of the circle, was also created. The logo gained color, with a palette inspired by the natural color of the items depicted. The type of chicken in the logo went from a generic brown and white chicken, to a specific species: the Barred Plymouth Rock Chicken. This species has very unique black and white plumage, and is a favorite of the Rumbaugh family’s two children.

Logo Uses

So far, the logo has been used on shirts, hats, stamps, and packaging for products such as eggs, herb jars, and paper bags for vegetables. In addition to the standard and alternate logo versions, I also created a single color-black version and a simplified version for embroidery. The family has gone from selling their products at a table in their front yard, to having a stall at the farmers’ market and a weekly farm stand partnership with a local business.
